Oud Ertugrul

$399

Just as the neat oud made distillers wonder how such a galaxy of a scent was…

Description

First thoughts: Succulent. Royal succulence. Delectable violet noir. Oud… Ertugrul.

Thick, lush berry pulp rolled into a cigar. Violet iris brewed with orange blossom and a dash of thyme and… imagine purple sumac syrup stirred into a creamy potion of mimosa steeped in sandalwood.

This is a delectable creamy berried oud brew that smells every bit as regal as Oud Sultani. The scent screams royal, with its succulent opening wafts that remind you of the same liqueur-like blue-purple sultry sparkle you smell in an aged jasmine-infused ghalia or the exquisite royal piquant flavor vintage Myitkyina oud : Taifi rose mélanges (eg. Mélange Royale) makes you drool over – except, in here there’s a lot more going on…

“Mmmmmm… a fat swipe smelling like a sweet thick vanilla Borneo flower garden with Kyara heaters gently heating some Kinam!!!”

Capturing the Oud Ertugrul profile in spray form means honing in on orris root drunk on vanilla, that icing of blueberry cheesecake infused with mimosa and cypress. And, of course that kyara powdery tone; that raspberry cinnamon cloaked in the soft sweet smokiness of heated beccariana.

“Shocked every time I use this. I tried many other Borneo oils, and none have this unique profile.” – Muhammad A / USA on the neat oud.

Oud Ertugrul was a beast of an oud bursting with all that floral berry cake bliss. That’s why, as far as scent goes, this spray edition is replete – because it captures a lot.

It’s a perfumer’s perfume. Just as the neat oud made distillers wonder how such a galaxy of a scent was coaxed from raw agarwood, this perfume will make you note-pick and pick and pick all while making your nose buds salivate from those bursts of creamy berry floral OUDness.

I’m gonna give this some time and see (maybe towards the end of the year?) if this goes down as the most addictive EO perfume…

… Because that’s what it’s been at the atelier – a spray after spray affair, as you walk around while bubbles of purple oud berries pop mid-air spraying oud juice into the air; oud juice of this creamy floral raspberry sort that makes you spray and spray again.

Featured Testimonials…

I’ve been note-picking ever since I got this, and Oud Ertugrul manages to surprise me every time I wear it. Smelling the wafts of this in the air just makes me smile.

The first spray is just a pure burst of rich and juicy berries. Sweet and creamy, with some perfectly balanced bitterness and gentle spice at the same time. It also has this hint of smokiness and aromatic feel to it, which I can’t really guess where it’s coming from.

After an hour or so, the florals emerge, and it’s just a moment of bliss at this point. When I thought the succulent berries had faded, they magically reappear. I found this amusing and delightful.

As for the oud, I haven’t had a chance to try the oil version of Ensar’s Oud Ertugrul, but I’m fortunate enough to have tested Borneo Kinam and Iris Blanc, which I find share some similarities to the Oud Ertugrul perfume version. Something I would describe as dry, creamy, powdery, camphorous vanilla. Oud Ertugrul just takes my love and appreciation of Bornean oils to new heights and makes me want to explore more.

Short impression – just get it!

Not so short summary – purple creamy sweet tart berry with overall bitterness profile.

Really enjoyed this oud centric blending perfect for any occasion any weather conditions.

Oud Ertugrul opens with extremely sharp white florals and juicy fruits. It is such greenish white and indolic, and possibly the most indolic opening of all EO perfumes I have tried. Blended with obvious but not animalistic musk, this opening is perfectly fitting my taste. People told me the carrier is ambergris but to my nose, musk is very prominent, especially when you sniff the atomiser or your skin when it dries down. Does it get any musk in if anyone knows and is happy to answer please?

When the citrusy notes fades, a solid layer of flowers brings me to a private garden, Jasmine and rose surround you with a touch of earthiness from the soil, ylang ylang and juniper berry inject a touch of aromatic vibe into the air, such fresh and also dense. From now on, you could easily detect the fabulous Oud Ertugrul. it is so sparkling, a bit berry-like and soft floral with a touch of sweet creaminess. I have never expected a Borneo oud to show off beautiful facets of high quality Cambodian oud in its own way. It is also easy to get a slightly varnish-like note. Is this oud still young or is this a character of the oud from that region?

It will finally settle down to an alluring combo of creaminess and oudiness. Now I can understand why people told me it is a bit close to Iris Noir. This drydown also gave the similar but softer creamy irisy oud feel. Instead of having strong sandal buttery creaminess, Oud Ertugrul, this rich resinous oud oil, is the main player here, dominates in the drydown. Tobacco made it dressed up with a dark coat.

Every day we deep dive into the perfumery world, in order to find more and more possibilities to explore beauty of precious materials in different directions. Oud Ertugrul shows me one that I have never known. Enjoying this perfume is like travelling from spring to autumn, from North Pole to Tropic, from daylight to midnight, from fresh to dense. It changes a lot over time, and become an entirely different profile at the end. It is so cool~~~

…Oud Ertugrul is amazing!

The first thing that came to my mind was: why haven’t I bought a 50ml of this?

These berry notes are next level & absolute perfection to me…

UPDATE:

Sweet purple berrys, thick syrupy notes stirred together with beautiful oud, fruits and woods. Absolutely delicate smell, I’m curious to see how this one’s developing in a few months. The profile of this perfume is great and I’ve decided to compliment it with 2 swipes of Jamaican ambergris attar to give it a little tropical boost.

Very smooth and calming combination 😌

A dream of purple berry notes, drenched in oud and tobacco. This was love on the first spray for me. The oud has been blended perfectly into this perfume but the main players are indeed the berries and the tobacco. At first I was thinking wow this could easily be a Sultani but after wearing it you’ll notice that this is a very different type of purple berry EO perfumes.

Hints of smokiness together with the creamy berries, florals and oud… a perfect scent in my eyes!
Once my bottle is finished, I definitely won’t make the same mistake as I did with my first purchase rather, I’ll go straight for a big bottle of this juice.

Oud Ertugrul is a beautiful fragrance that, on the grand spectrum of things, bridges between the ultra-purple deep incense of Oud Sultani 1975 and its flankers on one side and the light iris florals of Iris Blanc and Lily Gris on the other.

Oud Ertugrul leans definitively more towards the Iris Blanc and Lily Gris and closer to Lily Gris’ sharper/pepper bite. I have not pulled out my Purple Rain in a while, but there are ghosts of Purple Haze in Oud Ertugrul.

Oud Ertugrul leans seasonally into Spring and early Summer. It would also be a nice wear for summer nights at a restaurant or event. The dry down is probably the strongest aspect to this composition. It starts with a very Oud and spice centric opening and then the florals come on with a slightly sweet and slightly powdery profile emerging after an hour or more. After a few hours, it stays close to skin and shifts in its leanings back toward the Oud Sultani side of the spectrum. It opens leaning toward the Oud Sultani side, then leans the other floral way, then returns leaning toward Oud Sultani 75. Yet, it’s kind of chameleon in that it is actually quite a Spring fragrance.

Oud Ertugrul will elicit a lot of commentary from the community.

Cotton Candy Opening – Powdery Berry Notes – Kyara KoKo Balsamic Qualities – Oudy Powdery Berry Drydown

—Travis H / USA

Oud Ertugrul is really something else.  Love the berry element as others have said, and I get some wonderful kinamic notes on the drydown.  Overall the woody, oudy elements are blended very well with the more perfumery type notes.

While it may not literally smell like blueberry cheesecake, it evokes that creamy, indulgent texture with a fascinating gourmand twist. The interplay of the blueberry-like sweetness and the rich, resinous oud creates a stunning balance that is luxurious and addictive without veering into cloying sweetness.
This fragrance offers a masterful take on how oud can be paired with softer, sweeter notes to produce a scent that feels both innovative and timeless. It’s a gourmand, but one with depth, complexity, and elegance.
—Sam G / USA

Oud Ertugrul has the depth of something like Oud Sultani or Notes From Underground, but is not quite as relentlessly dense. The opening features a mysterious greenness that evokes, for me, a foggy taiga forest which quickly fades to the aforementioned blueberry cake.

The presence of the right amount of restrained fruity/floral sweetness allows oleoresinous goodness of the Borneo Oud remain the star of the show. Extremely wearable and addictive.

The smell is at once comfortingly familiar, and yet completely new.

Ensar keeps improving in his craft, and this is a prime example.

Don’t let the price point deceive you – this is top tier juice.

UPDATE:

Oud Ertugrul is my favorite release this year, and in my top 5 Ensars ever. Don’t sleep on this one!
