Tiger Stone was commissioned by Ryan S. and builds on the stoney-resinous sandy-ambergris saffron-jasmine raspberry-lavender structure of Hajar Aswad by incorporating a full 3 gram bottle of Tigerwood 1990, along with pure ambergris tincture as the carrier.
A combo of smokey Maroke and the resinous cacao strains of a unique Sumatran agarwood harvest form the base of Hajar Aswad, layered in melissa and saffron with raspberry and lavender coalescing to create the perfume’s signature top chord.
Deeply resinous as Tigerwood is, it also have a beautiful floral tone when you get to know it. Reminiscent of Oud Sultani, this floral note is found in quality vintage Malaysian ouds and here jibes smoothly with the jasmine, saffron, melissa, and orange blossom; injects the floral heart with its smokey resin that would create a darker toned rendition of Hajar Aswad.
I say that as if there are plenty of quality vintage Malaysian ouds out there. They are very far and few between, as any oudhead would tell you. To have thirty-year-old tigerwood distillations at your disposal is a luxury few, if any, perfumers can offer you. And a community that encourages heavy doses of ’em is a revolution in the making!
Instead of darkening the profile, Ryan added a 2.5 grams of Sultan’s Rose to not just counter a fat dose of oud (which brings the total oud component in Tiger Stone to almost 30%!) but also to add rose’s diffusive power and let the floral notes fused with resin and agar smoke and cacao draped in old-souq spices jump higher for stronger projection and silage.
Tiger Stone is a resin-drenched floral-spice bouquet that makes a bold statement. With an ensemble of wild Maroke, wild Sumatran, and vintage wild Tigerwood smashing the beat, ‘oudy’ is just the beginning…
