As we keep repeating, old oud ≠ quality oud, so one thing to look out for in vintage oud is
For years we’ve talked about the golden days of Cambodia. The old-school Pursat distillations that were thick, deep red droplets of oud bliss.
Pots are locked away because the wood classic Cambodian ouds were distilled from have gone the way of flared pants since the 70s.
Even when you hit the jackpot today and find a forgotten tree three days’ hike into Pursat’s mountainous jungle, how do you account for forty years’ slow, natural aging? It’s this combination of fantastic agarwood and maturity that imparts Pursat oils with their famous dense, resinous red sweetness.
Sultan’s Pursat brings back to life this forgotten aroma. Vintage Cambodian oud from those golden days, and made for and worn by an actual Sultan.
Smooth as silk, dark red resin drenched in fruits grown deep under earth, marinating amidst the agar roots as they drink from the ancient Cambodian soil.
As we keep repeating, old oud ≠ quality oud, so one thing to look out for in vintage oud is the scent development…
In a force-aged or lower-grade oud, you’d smell top notes with some flavor which then run into a bland dusty smell within 3 minutes, and that sawdust aroma is all that’s left.
Sultan’s Pursat unfolds beautifully, with the classic dark fruity olde-Cambodian profile oozing out all the way to the drydown. You’ll also detect a subtle cooling effect early on, which lingers in an undercurrent beneath wafts of red Cambodian incense.
