The scent of oud stretches on a vast spectrum. A spectrum so complex it’s hard to choose two poles, because ‘fruity’ on one end doesn’t mean ‘earthy’ on the other, nor does ‘woody’ lie on the opposite end of ‘floral’.
When it comes to Thai oud, fruity and floral tend to be household highlights. (Ouds like Sumanaka and Kusuma showcased prime examples of each.)
But then there are ouds that oscillate between different points on the spectrum. Apricot and plum that drip from freesias onto magnolia petals, scents which in the end ooze into each other to form an oud profile that smells kinda Thai, but also a whole kinda not.
Is that a whiff of coco? An almost Papuan-like incense note? Petrichor-ish, but with a tangy ripe fruit veneer that barely covers the coco coming from that incense trail that whirls around hints of that plummy magnolia vibe.
Of course, there’s no Papuan oud in here, or any cacao. Rather, Santina showcases the depth and quality we’ve been working hard to capture over the years in our mission to produce artisanally crafted organic oud.
This magcopricot profile is easy to wear around the unaccustomed Western palette, and easy to get addicted to! It’s also a delight to explore, so Santina is an easy choice if you’re a seasoned oudhead looking for a daily swiper that’s also got new laters to discover, and an easy recommendation if you’re just starting out on your oud journey.
