I used to treat my Persian rose like gold. I only had a limited amount of the batch I liked, so I used it only where it was crucial. 

The OGs of No 1, Sultan Leather Attar, Sultan Red Rose, and Iris Ghalia featured it.

Those who somehow prefer those early editions of these perfumes without being able to pinpoint why… well, the Persian rose may have something to do with that. 

That’s because while the layperson may think all roses smell alike, just like oud, they have beautiful nuances that, to a seasoned nose, stand out like green from blue.

Once you really get into the scent of rose, you’ll discover even the same rose bud can smell different depending on how fresh it is, the time of day, and the temperature – studying the chilling tolerance of roses has implications for making edible roses, while you’ll generally find that on warmer days roses smell less potent. 

If the scent of the same rose can change, it’s not hard to see how different species of roses grown in different climates and ecosystems will produce unique tones.
