Pink Papua

I wish I could tell you there was a ‘pink’ oud, but…

Description

This perfume has kind of been in the works for twenty years…

“Pink Papua” was one of the first attars I ever created. This was during the early Oriscent years, and it took me about fifteen years to re-release the attar again.

My philosophy is: If I can’t make it properly, better not make it. So, when a fragrance is built around a certain aromatic, you better make sure that you use the very best of that aromatic.

That’s why it took me so long to release the attar again – I could never find the caliber pink lotus that went into the original.

With the likes of Mystical Lotus becoming a reality, you can imagine how the idea to one day compose a pink lotus perfume has been teasing me non-stop.

Not only is lotus one of the most narcotic scents you can smell, it’s also one that smells even more otherworldly when combined with the right oud

The difference between blue and pink lotus isn’t just in the name…

If you’re not familiar with the contrast you may think pink lotus is more akin to red champaka or tuberose than it is to its blue brother. It would take someone with experience to tell you that they’re both from lotus petals…

Unique as each is, if you study them long enough the familiarity comes out clearly. The creamy tone, that buttery glaze that makes you lick your lips, and the thickness of the smell.

It’s all these facets that make finding the right quality so difficult. [Relatively] cheap pink lotus smells as distant to what’s in this perfume as the cheap blue lotuses out there smell compared to what goes into a bottle of Mystical Lotus.

Differences aside… in a perfume, pink lotus is as delectable, as rich, as exalting an aromatic as blue nymphaea.

This perfume is all about showcasing that delectable floral-lick-your-lips-cream… drenched in oud.

I wish I could tell you there was a ‘pink’ oud, but I’m not aware of any. But here’s the secret: the scent of pink lotus isn’t pink. If you marinated tuberose and champaka and blue lotus you’d get its abstract pink. So, you don’t need ‘pink’ oud…

Still, to conceptionally create a pink oud aroma that also matches to pink lotus profile, you’ll enjoy a combo of Borneo and Indian oud for a fusion that’s at once creamy and spicy, dry Malinau white coupled with the rooibos red of agallocha.

Imagine adding this unique combo to those delectable lotus layers, decked out further with a blood orange-ylang veneer that smells delectable in tango with the lotus’ creamy tone, all while that pink oud combo incense tone wraps the aroma.

If you want the ultimate luxury floral-oud [unisex] perfume, I left nothing on the table to bring you this edition. There may be a nice tuberose soliflore out there. A nice sandalwood spray. Pink lipstick stuff. Scattered facets of an aromatic you won’t find anywhere on display or at the heart of even the niche-est perfumes.

Certainly, where would you have ever heard of that pink beauty relaxing in a pool of oud?

So, take a spritz and let that pink that’s not pink let you smell lotuliscious opulence to the max.

Featured Testimonials…

I don’t share my opinions on Ensar Oud fragrances often, but I feel like this one deserves some spotlight—so here I go.
Disclaimer: It’s not the first time I’ve found the less talked-about or “hyped” EO fragrances to be my favorites over some of the more “popular” offerings. So, make of my words what you will.
Recently, I got my hands on Ensar Oud Pink Papua. I like florals in general, so the notes intrigued me and I went for it. It’s the 9th EO bottle in my collection. I’m not an expert like some of you mad lads with shelves upon shelves of these art pieces, but I’ve sampled many more, so I do have some understanding.
Pink Papua opens, to me, a bit similar to Musc Gardenia (BK edition). That similarity lasts for about two minutes, and then the fragrance moves on. I don’t know how EO does it, but this “stem of a lily” or other water-flower feeling appears. I can’t call it just a smell—it brings both the scent and the sensation. Cold, green, aquatic—all at once. I love it. It’s invigorating and refreshing, and it lasts for up to two hours.
After that, I get more florals—and in my opinion, that’s the best part of the fragrance. The water-flower-stem feel settles into the background, and you’re teleported into a flower shop. That background smells exactly like walking into a well-kept, temperature-controlled flower shop. The thing is, the flowers you smell keep changing—like every five minutes—for the next five hours. It’s like walking around a flower shop for five hours straight. It never gets boring, it never gets stale. You’re constantly entertained, always finding something new to focus on.
It never gets annoying or overwhelming either. It feels so natural, smooth, and pleasing. I’ve encountered some floral fragrances that are sharp, aggressive, and a bit tiring if you’re not in the mood for them—but this is completely different.
I do one spray under my shirt before bed. It helps me calm down, and I fall asleep in one garden of beautiful flowers and wake up the next day in another.
This dynamic, never-ending evolution of a scent isn’t something I come across often in artisanal perfumery—at least in my experience.
After the seventh hour or so, the fragrance does its final 180° turn, drying down into a sort of yellow, sweetish flower—maybe something like frangipani—and it stays like that forever. I’m talking 24+ hours on my skin. Maybe I just got lucky with skin chemistry, or maybe it’s simply perfect for my taste, but this Pink Papua has truly become one of my most loved Ensar Oud fragrances.
If my thoughts and experiences get at least one more nose on this excellent composition, I think I’ve done my part.

Pink Papua by Ensar Oud: Sweet Sophistication
Pink Papua beautifully combines pink lotus and oud, with the lotus bringing an earthy, honeyed aroma to the mix. The oud, meanwhile, is very smooth and slightly minty (no fecal aroma) and somewhat sweet, thanks to the heavy floral notes it’s associated with.
This fragrance is surprisingly light and subtle, yet still present – Pink Papua is a super pleasant, sweet, and musky floral scent that’s super unique.
