Kelantan 1997

Impossible as it is, even if you could…
If Oud Ahmad is one of your reference points for the pinnacle West Malaysian oud experience, this is your chance to smell what was being distilled in Kelantan even earlier.
Kelantan 1997 comes from that old world of Malaysian gaharu – wild, resin-heavy centennial sinking-grade agarwood distilled at a time when the great forests of Kelantan could still yield wood like this. Almost three decades later, what remains is an extraordinarily saturated expression of the profile that made Kelantan legendary in the first place.
Every swipe oozes old red resin, with a priceless medicinal-herbaceous bite and that peculiar floral quality that makes great Malaysian oud smell almost perfumed by itself. Purple flowers rise out of the gaharu, then sink back into a darker, sappy resinous core with subtle earthy spices and a cool vaporous edge.
Impossible as it is, even if you could distill its equal today, there’s no way to replicate what decades of maturation does to its olfactory texture. The sharper edges have settled, the resin smells completely transmuted, and everything seems fused together like only high-grade olde oud does – flowers inside resin, resin inside wood – without losing the clarity that tells you exactly where this oud comes from.
This isn’t a ‘recreation’ of old-school Kelantan. Not an attempt to distill in the old style.
The old stuff itself.
