I’ve previously mentioned the story of how I bought this oud back from a collector. All you need to do is smell it to understand why.

Kalbar remains the bluest oud I have ever encountered and one of the most exquisite ouds ever distilled.

It’s hard to believe that seventeen years have passed since its creation – it’s also telling that no ouds like it has emerged during the past seventeen years. 

Imagine holding your hands over a gently sizzling Brunei agarwood chip; the aroma would astound you with how akin it is to Kalbar. But I’d go further and say that the oil give you more than even the craziest Brunei sinkers raw…

In liquid form, Brunei agarwood wraps you an unparalleled floral note, rarely experienced in the scent of burning oud chips. Its tangy, blue-cool top notes radiate with a vibrant intensity, a quality absent in most modern oud oils, not to mention finding a quality brunei disill to compare.

Unlike the static resin in oud wood, distilled oud oil evolves over time, maturing and deepening in complexity – unlocking dimensions beyond the scent of raw resin. This is the essence of artisanal distillation: capturing the very soul of the tree.

And this wasn’t just any tree…

Had we not boldly ground the precious Bruneian agarwood to distill this oil, you might have owned a stunning collection of Brunei kinam chunks instead. The caliber of wood we distilled reaches tens of thousands of dollars per kilogram. Even more remarkable, much of what went into the distillation included chips from Brunei kinam-producing trees, culminating in what would become recognized as Brunei kinam itself.

There’s no redoing this. Remaking Kalbar. What I’ve got is all there is. That’s why it only goes into my most select bespoke perfumes.
