A fraghead’s wish is for these two alpha aromatics to bring the best each has to…

Description

Tibetan Musk and Tonkin Musk are entirely different perfumes, while Mongolian Musk and Private Blend, too, are worlds apart. While each of them is totally distinct from the next, what they share in common is showcasing different facets of musk – or, more accurately, how fantastically unique the impact of musk can be on a composition.

Same goes for Ottoman Ambergris and Jamaican Ambergris – two totally different perfumes. And you might not have guessed it, but ambergris is such a crucial component in it that EO1, in my book, falls squarely in the “ambergris perfume” category.

So, what makes an ambergris perfume? And how do you get a Cuban amber perfume?

A spritz spreads the bold aroma of cured tobacco leaves, but it doesn’t instantly ground the fragrance in an earthy, smoky profile as you’d expect. Instead, the sundried cigar leaves are marinated in a salty glaze lending a subtle marine quality that’s lush and fresh.

Tobacco adds depth to a perfume, but you don’t necessarily want it to be the main note. Besides, how many tobacco frags that are basically generic solifores?

Because tobacco, especially a thick, quality extract, can dominate and drown out many notes, the challenge is to capture notes that are not too subtle or too loud in a sensual aroma decorated with notes that enhance its natural facets… think honey or hay or a dry, earthy coumarin spice-like veneer.

The problem is that ambergris can act just like it. Too much ambergris can quickly choke a fragrance and the result isn’t what you may think – you won’t simply end up with an ambergris-heavy fragrance. Nope. If you don’t know what you’re doing you’d easily end up with a grand mess; a cloying sandy dryness akin to dust. Or a muddy bland bleh.

A fraghead’s wish is for these two alpha aromatics to bring the best each has to offer and create something even better. For ambergris to imbue the tobacco with its oceanic muskiness to contrast the dark smokiness, while at the same time acting as a projector to ensure it leaves a trail of lasting sillage.

Obviously, from the perfumer’s POV, this dance needs to extend throughout with all aromatics. To have both contrasting and complementing notes; a whisper of juniper berry adds a crisp, green edge that hints at the freedom of the open sea; lavender’s bite for balance; vanilla to moisten and sweeten, and civet to do the same… but also discreetly play into the animalic role of ambergris (which many forget about)……

…… The tranquil cool of vetiver brightened by the fresh resinous tones of fir to evoke the fresh vitality of the forest. And the irreplaceable beauty of rose and jasmine that drives tobacco wild.

Notes From Underground showcased what a potent combo tobacco and musk can be. It was so raunchy it was polarizing. You can say Habana Ambar is the ambergris-ed counter act. A way more suave, mellow tobacco fragrance that’s as much about the cigar as the salty amber waves crashing on the Cuban shore. And it’s what makes Habana Ambar an easy-going, easy-to-wear-anywhere, richly-layered fragrance.

A scent that stirs up olfactory images of lounging leather chairs in open air gazing out at the Cuban coastline: it’s humid, hot, the sun sets and it’s all red and yellow as the ocean breeze melts into the warmth of the Caribbean sun. There’s life. Zest. Glistening with Habana Ambar flavor in the air.

Featured Testimonials…

Wow! How multifaceted! It was like meeting several personalities in one. Each unique!
What a beauty!
My Cuban mother LOVED it and I of course …. Adored it!
At first, I was greeted by a strong and happy flower and some green tones, but after a few seconds of going through that fresh green passage, the oud and tobacco started “dancing with one another passionately”.
WHAT A BEAUTY!
I am mesmerized…. What a rich, fun and unique perfume!

Habana Ambar by Ensar Oud – Sweet and Earthy
Habana Ambar starts with a juicy mango accord that’s irresistible, on top I’m a huge mango fan (India’s 1500 varieties of Mango to be blamed here 😂). The sweetness of mango accord however is short-lived, as the green fir takes over, bringing its rich, earthy character to the forefront.
This fragrance is multifaceted, with a lot going on, but as the name suggests, tobacco and ambergris are the main players which is supported by other notes, they create a super wearable, light, and easy-to-like scent. By “light,” I mean it won’t overwhelm your senses, despite its bold tobacco and sharp ambergris.
The construction is impressive, blending ambergris’s animalic nuances with tobacco’s dark smokiness. On skin, it shines and lasts around 10 hours. Habana Ambar is a well-crafted fragrance.

Scent of the night is Habana Ambar. A juicy purple cocktail with a gentle tobacco note, ambergris and Papua oud. You’ll get Jamaican ambergris x Oud ertugrul vibes with a nice twist of tobacco, vetiver & mango and of course a lot of other good things, but that’s how I’d describe it shortly.
The mango note is not very potent, it has been blended perfectly to the fruity berry notes and works great with the rest of the composition.
A very easy to wear, easy to like and great smelling composition.

Was lucky enough to receive a sample of Habana Ambar, all I can say is you’re in for a treat.

I strongly believe that this will be up there with the likes of Jamaican Ambergris in terms of cult following and appeal!

It’s nothing like any other EO I can think of. For me there is a slightly sweet tobacco with a cooling feel, not minty but that same cooling effect (the Cuban vibe I call it). Don’t envisage dark brooding tobacco, think playful and uplifting, full of zest for life and the Cuban spirit.

This is complimented by a really stunning fruity ambergris overtone. It has some green qualities but it’s not overly green nor dominated by that family of notes.

I love it! As you know I’ve smelt a lot from EO and this has knocked my socks off!

I don’t want to hype this up, but the first impressions are very positive. If you are a fan of JA you gonna like this.
Yellow Fruits, salty and some aromatic/almost minty tobacco. Delicious!
All year round scent, unique.
Is like we are getting the Salty floral DNA without the Oud of JA or the Musk/ouds of Ottoman Ambergris, hence the price difference, but just as enjoyable!

Habana Ambar – finally the bottle is added to my collection. 🌎✨
Opening (Top Notes) 🌲🍑: The initial burst is fresh and vibrant, with the crispness of Siberian fir blending seamlessly with the herbal coolness of lavender. The unexpected touch of mango adds a tropical sweetness that feels both juicy and light. It’s a lively introduction, like stepping into a lush, sunlit grove.
Heart (Middle Notes) 🌺🌹: As the top notes settle, the floral heart takes center stage. Rose absolute and jasmine sambac lend a soft, luxurious sweetness, while plumeria adds a creamy, exotic twist. The juniper berry provides a subtle freshness, balancing the florals beautifully. This phase feels romantic and inviting, like a warm evening garden after rain.
Base (Dry Down) 🌿🪵: The dry down is where Habana Ambar truly shines.
Tobacco and bourbon vanilla create a warm, slightly smoky embrace, while wild Papuan oud and aged sandalwood add depth and sophistication. Ambergris and civet provide a sensual, almost animalic richness, and the oakmoss and vetiver bring a grounding, earthy touch. It’s complex yet harmonious—a perfect fusion of warmth and mystery.
Overall Impression 🖤: Habana Ambar is an intoxicating blend of fruity brightness, floral elegance, and deep, resinous warmth. It’s versatile enough for special occasions yet luxurious enough for daily wear if you want to stand out.
This scent lingers beautifully on the skin, leaving a soft, enticing trail.
Final Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

…this one pops like an ice-cold fizzy soda! No funk, no harsh edges just pure, feel-good vibes.
It’s playful, uplifting, and an absolute joy to wear. I get the tobacco, but it’s not stealing the show. Instead, this scent whisks me to a beautiful Cuban getaway, think beachside lounges, fruity cocktails in hand, and a warm breeze carrying hints of fresh tobacco leaves. It’s that perfect mix of relaxation and fun. A fantastic pick for anyone craving a lighter, more easygoing tobacco fragrance—perfect for summer nights (or honestly, any time of year).
Ensar’s team took this in a fun, unexpected direction, and I’m here for it!
