Garden of Eden: Ya Chuan
Price range: $2,150 through $6,750
A fragrance dripping in rare oud, drenched in…
Garden of Eden is built on the rarest ouds known to Man: Borneo 3000 (a legend that needs no introduction), Guallam Rouge (a near-mythical Vietnamese-Yunnan co-distill, infused with raw Tonkin musk), and the unstoppable force of Kyara, the pinnacle of oud, hitting with a kinamic blast that defies words.
As insane as that oud trio is, this edition takes the oud to a new level…
Ya Chuan is one of the most precious ouds in the EO archives. It’s hands-down among the highest grade Vietnamese ouds ever distilled and stands up there with Nha Trang and Kyara.
Yellow, medicinal, gently bitter – i.e. the scent of kyara.Â
Now, imagine Ya Chuan joins B3000, GR, and Kyara entwined with tuberose, jasmine sambac, jonquil, and the golden glow of beeswax. Not resting on the surface, but woven deep, their warmth and sweetness wrapping around the oud’s raw power.
Then you’ve got a carrier of pure Tibetan musk and ambergris, blended at a 41%+ concentration, with a full third of the formula composed of oud alone.
Opulence, excellence, luxury – these words get thrown around too easily. But here, they barely suffice. Garden of Eden is a fragrance dripping in rare oud and drenched in the world’s most exquisite florals. It doesn’t need diamonds and rubies to justify its worth. While often the cheapest perfumes are dressed in jewels and sold for fortunes, this bespoke edition gives you the gold… yet earns its price with what’s inside.
*Raw stone cap with plaque plated in 18-karat gold.
Featured Reviews…
I always wondered, could perfumes ever clearly exceed oud oils as a category? The answer has always been no for me. I have loved my favorite perfumes and oud oils equally, but they weren’t doing the same things. There’s a level of depth in the oud oil experience that is a bit lost in perfume.
Then came along Garden of Eden: Ya Chuan. This is, as far as I’m concerned, not merely a different experience from oud oils, but a superior one. Initially, its structure resembles a complex perfume, with identifiable florals contrasted against the oud. But minutes later, there is a fusion into a single, bottomless, dazzling, piercing golden honeyed scent that to me, is a step beyond any oud oil neat.
Oud oils have nuances that come and go, you never smell everything all at once. There’s always searching and analyzing going on. With Garden of Eden: Ya Chuan, all of that goes out of the window.
All of the beauty inherent in the ouds are pumped out right at the immediate level. There’s no searching, no coaxing, no meeting in the middle, just an oud laser beamed right into your brain. I’m assuming this has been accomplished by expertly “filling in the gaps” of the oud with the other components (jasmine, jonquil, beeswax, musk, ambergris etc).
I have never experienced maximum depth and maximum immediacy simultaneously in the olfactory world until now, and it has made me seriously reassess everything I have liked thus far. Relentless, overwhelming beauty that is the best samsara has to offer.
Thank you, EO team!
