In perfumery, I’m always cautious with citrus chords – not just citrus itself, but aromatics with a citrus-like facet – because of how they can throw off certain aromatics. Some may remember how we explored this during the Homeros Collab, where the presence of civet coupled with a certain citrus produces a……… I’m trying to think of another way to say cloying cacophony.
Someone who has never deeply smelled rose and thinks all roses smell alike will be dumbfounded when they hear others gush over how roses can have an orange peel tone, or a lemony veneer like in a fine Ta’ifi, or the wholesome earthy notes of Rose Kazanlak, or that rugosas tease you with a hint of shiso leaf.
Ward Isfahani rose shows off a subtle dewy Turkish-delight-like sugariness without smelling thick. In fact, all three Persian roses in the EO Atelier are beautifully bright compared to others. If you’re used to dark-colored Turkish or Bulgarian rose absolutes, I especially encourage you to try this.
While I love rose absolutes, if you want the most pristine HD scent of the ambient aroma of a live rose petal, then a fine otto gives you that much more than an absolute. And when it’s a bright, clean profile as you have here, that ‘clarity’ of the pure rose petal aroma means that taking a swipe lets you carry a fresh bouquet of roses with you for hours.
