Pink Papua

This is a new rendition of one of my earliest compositions, which came and went about 15 years ago.

That edition was built around a special Borneo oud and a beautiful batch of pink lotus, which created a combo I’ve had trouble putting together ever since. 

I’ve repeatedly said how rare the blue lotus I use in my atelier is and how we often don’t get any in a given year – which is why many of my sprays or perfume oils that require it are unavailable for long stretches of time.

If you’re aware of this scarcity problem, you may have noticed that, despite its rarity, I do keep blue lotus perfumes on the roster. We even apportioned a little bit to sell neat to show you first-hand the caliber blue lily I’m talking about.

But when last did you see me offer pink lotus, in any way, shape, or form? 

Like with blue lotus, I’ve lost count of how many pink lotus samples we’ve tried and tested over the years – none of them came even close to the batch that was turned into the Pink Papua all those years ago. 

It wasn’t until last year that a special soul managed to capture a proper lush, blossoming beauty of a pink lotus extract. One that’s on par with our precious blue lotus and one that would bring Pink Papua to life again. 

And that’s what you have here. Exquisite, wild, artisanal Malinau oud dripping from pink lily petals into a pond of creamy Sri Lankan sandalwood with a sweet current of jasmine that stirs up ripples of pink creamy oud.

Don’t be fooled when you hear ‘pink’, though…

Pink lotus is one of the most sonorous florals on Earth. It’s incredibly dense, with a rich creamy-pollen sweetness that’s every bit as sensual as the finest tuberose – and rarer than it.

It’s this creamy-pollen sweetness in bed with the raspberry vanilla-creamy tone of a super fine Malinau that makes the couple so seductive. I’ve literally gone years without finding this lotus, and I’m sure I don’t need to tell you what Malinau means to an oudhead…

Unlike Blue Kalbar, which showcases a cast 30+ aromatics, Pink Papua gives you a minimalist fragrance; a tightly-knit cast of stars that are at the top of their game. A stunning pink-petal-oud fragrance that shows off Nature’s most bedazzling botanicals.

In the mood for some heavy lotus this evening. The Pink Papua is a very nice attar, loads of pink lotus flowers drenched in Papuan oud oil, sandalwood and jasmine. A classic and very beautiful composition!

To compliment it I’m burning some pink lotus incense infused with oud oil and extra sinking grade agarwood.

Lotus is quite a challenging aromatic for me since a bit too much of it can take over the entire composition and basically ruin it for me. Pink Papua got that perfect balance for me, it’s very well blended and the performance is great for an attar.

UPDATE:

Been wearing the Pink Papua since yesterday morning and then suddenly at night I’ve got the mail with the perfume release which made me quite happy. Pink Papua was an attar that I honestly didn’t like at the first sniff but the more I’ve been wearing it the more I’ve seen what this scent is about.

The opening is a blast of florals, very heavy on lotus which is the main player of this scent. The lotus-floral mix gets complimented by a nice dose of Malinau oud which adds some earthy-Woody-green notes to this sweet and narcotic cocktail.

Malinau oud, tuberose, jasmine, pink lotus and sandalwood – a minimalistic but very interesting scent…Highly addictive !
