Description
The rose that grows above the clouds is a cliché. Roses that grow at 1,800 meters in the Hejaz Mountains, where the air pressure drops and the petals concentrate sugars and phenylethyl alcohol at levels flatland cultivation can’t touch – that’s a fact worth knowing. And roses worth smelling.
Ta’ifi Sultan at the center – honeyed, heady, with that high-altitude density. Around it, white florals and citrus that add brightness the way lemon cuts through cream: it doesn’t lighten the dish, it sharpens it. Davana and Osmanthus drag the fruit sideways – overripe apricot, something almost fermented.
Then fossilized hyrax secretion – animalic, tarry, older than perfumery itself. Nothing else smells like it. Nothing else does what it does to a rose.
Opulent, heady, honeyed darkness at the core. The kind Western perfumery keeps trying to brighten away, but Ward Sultani enhanced.
The sultan didn’t want subtle. Neither did we.
