Terengganu Rex
The old-school Vietnamese ouds inside Oud Rex, rather than…
Oud – not for the Maharaja or Sultan, but crafted for the Crown. A decadent elixir born from the remnants of fermented grapes, steeped in the intensity of tobacco leaves. A captivating blend of May rose, cacao, and clove, transformed into a delicate glacé within oak barrels steeped in the earthy sweetness of dried tobacco. Add to that the richness of lactating grape essence, a swirl of black pepper, and the boldness of black tea, before plunging into the heart of it all: the oud, the oud, the oud!
The old-school Vietnamese ouds inside Oud Rex, rather than delivering a sharp, red kinamic bite, exude leathery chords layered with tobacco, hay, and a whisper of citrus, finishing with an animalic edge. It’s an oud destined for royalty – crafted for kings, like Oud Rex.
But, while the foundation is laid with Vietnamese oud, this limited edition decks it out with the deep purple contrast of Terengganu (2 grams per 50ml) plus an accopmanying shot of Kelantan. This not only pushes up the overall concentration, but injects the profile with an even oudier aroma. Flowing into Tonkin musk, Hojari frankincense, rather than adhering to a typical oriental profile, Oud Rex embraces the sophistication of French perfumery while channeling the untamed creativity of an audacious oud connoisseur.
Forget the simplicity of scent pyramids – they cannot capture the intricacy of Oud Rex. Composed of over 70 meticulously selected ingredients, this fragrance reveals its mysteries in layers. By day, bask in the radiance of pear-laced aged ruh gulab, kissed by sweet civet under a clear sky. By night, oak and bourbon vanilla rise to prominence in the crisp autumn air, all while Terengganu oud incense weaves its magic through every note.
There’s nothing ‘lite’ or masstige about Oud Rex. Too much oud that’s too good, right down to the carrier (which contains raw wild Borneo Kinam oud resin and precious Borneo oud hydrosol we personally flew into the atelier) is okay by me. And I’m sure His Majesty would love nothing more, either.
